Albert Cannella is the W.P. Carey Chair in Strategy and Entrepreneurship at Arizona State University. He holds an MBA from the University of Northern Iowa and a PhD from Columbia University (1991). He has served on the faculties of Texas A&M University where he was the director of the Center for New Ventures and Entrepreneurship, and Tulane University, where he was the Koerner Chair in Strategy and Entrepreneurship. His research is focused on executives, corporate governance, competitive dynamics, and entrepreneurship. His research has appeared in Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, Journal of International Business Studies, and Journal of Financial Economics. He teaches entrepreneurship, strategic management, and research methods. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Management.

Tomi Laamanen, University of St. Gallen

Tomi Laamanen is Chaired Professor of Strategic Management, Director of the Institute of Management, Director of the PhD Program of Management, and Academic Director of the Strategy and International Management Master (SIM) Program of the University of St.Gallen. He holds two D.Sc. degrees; one in Strategy and one in Finance, and his research focuses on strategic management with a special emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, management cognition, strategy process, and capability dynamics. Tomi Laamanen is former Associate Editor of Strategic Management Journal, Editor-in-Chief of Long Range Planning, and member of the Editorial Boards of Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Discovery, Journal of Management, and Strategic Management Journal. Tomi has co-chaired two SMS Special Conferences (in Lapland and in St.Gallen), the Strategy Process IG of the SMS, and the Strategizing Activities and Practices (SAP) IG at the Academy of Management. At the moment, Tomi Laamanen is the Chair of the Strategic Management Special Interest Group of EURAM. In addition, Tomi Laamanen has actively worked with a number of firms as Chairman, Member of the Board, or strategy advisor.

Xavier Castaner, University of Lausanne

Xavier Castañer (PhD, Minnesota) is a Professor of Strategy at the University of Lausanne and taught at ESADE, HEC (Paris), HEC (Geneva) and LBS. He has published on corporate governance, strategy, and development (on internal ventures, alliances and M&A) and innovation in ASQ, CGIR, JoM, JMS and SMJ, among other journals. He is also doing research on cultural and cross-sectoral alliances’ dynamics. Xavier has been very active in SMS: he has organized preconference workshops, presented in and chaired multiple sessions, been a review committee member for the PhD awards several times for several conferences and the SFR grants, participated as a faculty in the Doctoral Workshop, served as Representative at Large of the former Corporate Governance and Strategy IG and of the Strategy Process IG and is finishing his 3-year cycle as officer of the Strategy Process IG. He serves in the Editorial Board of the AMJ, Org Sci and the SMJ, among other outlets.

Markus Menz, University of Geneva

Markus Menz is Associate Professor of Strategic Management at the Geneva School of Economics and Management, University of Geneva. Before, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of St. Gallen and a Visiting Fellow at Harvard University. He received his PhD from the University of St. Gallen. His research focuses on strategic leadership, corporate strategy, and organization design, particularly chief strategy officers, functional executives, top management team structures, and corporate headquarters. His work has been published in leading journals, including the Academy of Management Annals, Journal of Management, and Strategic Management Journal. He regularly reviews papers and serves as session chair, facilitator, or panelist for the SMS conferences, and was a Representative at Large of the Strategy Process Interest Group.

Michael Withers is an assistant professor of management in the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University. He received his Ph.D. in strategic management from the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. His research interests include corporate governance, director selection and mobility, and the management of resource dependencies through the board of directors. His research has been published or is forthcoming in several journals, including Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Management, and Academy of Management Perspectives.

Glenn Hoetker, Arizona State University

Glenn Hoetker is Dean's Council of 100 Distinguished Scholar and Associate Professor at Arizona State University's W.P. Carey School of Business. He also holds appointment in the Sandra Day O'Connor School of Law and the Global Institute of Sustainability. He earned his Ph.D. in international business and an M.S. in applied economics at the University of Michigan. He also holds an M.S. in library and information science from the University of Illinois and a B.A. in Japanese studies and mathematics from Earlham College. His research sits at the intersection of strategy, globalization and innovation, with a particular interest in inter-firm relationships, knowledge diffusion and the impact of national institutions on business strategy. He is a member of the Editorial Review Boards of the Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Strategic Organization and Organization Science.

Catherine Maritan, Syracuse University

Catherine Maritan is an Associate Professor at the Whitman School of Management, Syracuse University. She received a Ph.D. in strategic management from Purdue University, has held visiting appointments at Dartmouth College and Purdue, and served on the faculty of SUNY Buffalo. Her research on how firms develop and use capabilities has been published in leading outlets such as Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, and Journal of Management. She is Senior Associate Editor at Journal of Management and on the editorial board of Strategic Management Journal. She has long been active in SMS, with involvement in both the Strategy Process and Competitive Strategy Interest Groups and currently Co-Chairs the Strategy Research Funding Programs. Prior to entering academia, she worked as a mining engineer and as a corporate banker, in North America and in Europe.

Xavier Martin, Tilburg University

Xavier Martin (Ph.D., University of Michigan) is Professor of Strategy, International Business and Innovation at Tilburg University (The Netherlands). His research examines how corporate strategies, interfirm relationships, and knowledge-based assets affect each other and jointly affect firm performance, with specific attention to international contexts. His papers have appeared in SMJ, ASQ, AMJ, Organization Science, Management Science, JIBS and Research Policy, among others. In addition to multiple SMS Best Paper/Best Student Paper awards, Xavier Martin is a recipient of the Best International Paper Award (now Dexter Award) from the Academy of Management and both the Haynes Prize for Best Paper and the Richard N. Farmer Best Dissertation Award from the Academy of International Business, as well as several teaching awards. He serves on the editorial board of SMJ, among others. He is a former chair of the Competitive Strategy Interest Group of the Strategic Management Society and formerly served on the SMS board.

Gerry McNamara, Michigan State University

Dr. Gerry McNamara is a Professor of Management at Michigan State University. His research examines the effects of behavioral factors, organizational practices, and strategic positioning on organizational decision-making and risk taking. His research has been published in the Academy of Management Journal, the Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, the Journal of Applied Psychololgy, the Journal of Management, and the Journal of International Business Studies. Dr. McNamara’s research has been abstracted in the Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business Review, New York Times, Business Week, the Economist, and Financial Week. He is a co-author of the textbook Strategic Management: Creating Competitive Advantages with Greg Dess and Alan Eisner. He serves as an Associate Editor for the Strategic Management Journal and previously served as an Associate Editor for the Academy of Management Journal.

Jeffrey Reuer, University of Colorado, Boulder

Jeffrey J. Reuer is the Guggenheim Endowed Chair and Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado. He is a Fellow of the SMS and the first recipient of the SMS Emerging Scholar Award. He is an Associate Editor of the Strategic Management Journal and a co-editor of a SMJ special issue on the interplay of competition and cooperation, as well as a co-editor of a special issue on international collaborations at the Global Strategy Journal. He was a co-founder of the Cooperative Strategies Interest Group and was a program chair of two SMS conferences. He has also been active in the SMS as a chair of the Doctoral Workshop, an organizer of pre-conference sessions, and a judge for the SMS Best Conference Paper Prize. His research uses organizational economics to investigate firms' external corporate development activities. Recent projects are on the governance and design of alliances, collaborative strategies, and applications of information economics and real options theory to various corporate and international strategy problems.
